Who is eligible to apply for Group Benefit Coverage?
Factors must be met in order to be eligible for Group Insurance, including:
a) Be considered a ‘full-time’ employee, actively at work
b) Be a current Canadian resident
c) Work the minimum number of hours
How do Employees know what their Coverage is?
After enrolling in the Benefit Program, you will receive an employee booklet, which will detail your current coverage. If you are not able to answer coverage questions from your booklet, you can contact LBM Consulting Ltd., and a representative will be able to assist you in understanding your coverage.
Can Spouses and Children be Covered under Group Benefit Plans?
Spouses and children are considered dependants under the Group Benefit Plan.
Children are eligible to be covered as dependents until the age of 21 or 25, if enrolled in school full time).
Should changes in Personal Status be reported on my Group Insurance?
Changes such as marriages, separations, dependant additions and name changes should be reported to your plan administrator, and LBM Consulting, as it may affect your coverage. When making a change in personal status it is also a good idea to review your beneficiary designation.
How do I change my Personal Status, Dependant Coverage or Beneficiary?
For any of these changes, contact your plan administrator or LBM Consulting. The carrier will have a specific change form that you will need to fill out and sign in order to make the change. Ask your plan administrator or a representative at LBM Consulting if the carrier requires an original signature to make the change.
Does Family coverage mean that all of my dependants have the same coverage as myself?
Under family coverage, employee and dependants will hold the same Healthcare and Dental care, and Out of Province/Country benefits.
Additional Benefits, such as disability, does not extend to dependants and will cover the employee only. If you are questioning the coverage of a family member, please contact your plan administrator or LBM Consulting and we will advise you of your dependant coverage.
Can Group Benefits be converted to Personal Benefits if I leave my job?
Yes. Most carriers offer a conversion option for an individual to convert their Group coverage to Personal coverage. If a carrier does not provide that option, it is a good idea to make an appointment at LBM Consulting with an agent to look at applying for Personal Health independantly.
If my Spouse has a Group Benefits Plan can I claim under both plans?
If both parties are covered under a "family" status through their Group Benefit Plan, the two carriers can coordinate benefits, meaning that you are able to claim under both plans. This is ideal when one benefit plan covers a specific item that another plan does not.
